Part-Time Technical Director
convergence-continuum is expanding its staff and is seeking a Part-time technical director.
Position Summary
The Technical Director manages and implements technical aspects of our productions. The Technical Director is expected to function independently in an environment conducive to the development of new and environmental work with changing priorities and detail-critical deadlines. The Technical Director is responsible for managing projects from conception through completion with the design and creative teams for each production and bringing shows in on budget. In conjunction with the Executive Artistic Director, the Technical Director will take an active role in facilitating communication with Designers and Technical Staff.
Primary Responsibilities:

Collaborate with the design team and other production staff to establish methods for executing the design and construction of scenery and its integration with other technical elements of the productions.

Maintain clear communication with designers and with production staff to ensure successful integration of a show’s technical elements.

Attend all design presentations, meetings, rehearsals, and run-throughs as designated by the Executive Artistic Director.

Provide supervision for all load-in and work calls during the production process coordinating activity with other staff.

Serve as lead carpenter for each production.

Prepare a build and strike schedule for each production.

Supervise, manage, and support the technical staff for each production including build overhire, sound engineer, master electrician, and other technical staff to promote a safe, healthy, and productive, working environment.

Alongside the design team, assist with the completion of designs as needed; basic scenic painting, props and supplies acquisition.

Actively participate in team building, fostering a work environment incorporating the values of convergence-continuum.

Coach and develop staff and overhire by monitoring the quality of individuals work and providing constructive feedback.

Advises production managers, lighting and sound designers, on the technical specifications, costs and usage of technical equipment required for the individual show, and supervises the implementations of approved technical designs.

Monitors the condition of equipment including lighting, sound, projection, and rigging equipment; arranges for the repair and replacement within budgetary constraints; performs preventive maintenance on equipment.

Makes recommendations to the theater leadership regarding capital purchases of technical equipment.
Required Qualifications:

Demonstrated ability to lead teams in non-profit theatre production.

Commitment to creating and maintaining an equitable, inclusive, and anti-racist environment that values diversity.

Demonstrated ability in scenic construction and carpentry.

Demonstrated experience in at least two of the following areas: Lighting, Sound, Projection.

Optional: Experience with AutoCad, Vectorworks, qLab and ETC EOS Software.
Reports to: Executive Artistic Director.
Supervision: Functional supervision of Designers.
Hours & Pay: Negotiable, Target:$25/hour, hours flexible as needed, this position is part time, usually to not exceed 20 hours a week.
